About Us

The Sun Prairie County Water District was incorporated in 1974.  The District supplies drinking water and irrigation to the Sun Prairie Estates community.  There are 103 households using the drinking water system.

The homes that have river frontage do not have District irrigation.  They have water rights with their own lines and pumps so they can pump irrigation water directly out of the Sun River.  The Water Manager/Operator turns the irrigation pumps on each day beginning May 15th and then the system is turned off for the season October 15th.  However, if it is snowing or snow still on the ground the irrigation water will not be turned on until weather permitting.  Also, if the District gets days of rain during the summer, the pumps are usually not turned on.

The District had applied to receive grants and a loan for updating the drinking water system and currently in the process of installing meter pits to all drinking water customers.  KLJ is the engineering firm hired to oversee the drinking water upgrade project.
